From July 22 to 24, the 23rd GOS International Oil and Fat Chemical Conference was officially held in Kunming. Keynote Speech: Rising Raw Material Costs Are Compressing Gross Margins; Platform-Based Contract Manufacturing Establishes a Cost Defense Line for Brands
On the morning of the 24th, Huang Jianxin, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Contract Manufacturing Division at the Daily Chemicals Zhiyun Platform, delivered a keynote speech at the daily chemical products sub-forum. Citing data from Euromonitor, Magic Mirror and Zhuochuang Information, he stated that amid geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, the average price of Brent crude oil rose 22.8% year-on-year to $86.72 per barrel from January to July 2026. The average price of sulfonic acid, a core raw material, increased by 66.2%, while glycerol and propylene glycol grew 28.4% and 37.9% respectively. These factors directly pushed laundry detergent production costs up by over 40%. Meanwhile, average prices in the end market kept declining, and industry gross margins have generally narrowed to single digits, bringing huge operational pressure to enterprises.
